Privacy
Short, because there is little to say.
Your notes
Your notes stay where you keep them: plain Markdown files in a folder you choose, on your own devices. thinky has no accounts and no servers, and it never sends your notes anywhere. If you sync the folder with another app (for example Google Drive), that app's own privacy rules apply to it.
When thinky uses the internet
- The update check. At most once a day, when it starts, thinky asks GitHub for the newest release on
github.com/srikanth-iyer/thinky. When you press Update now, it downloads that release from GitHub. GitHub sees these requests like any visit (your IP address, for example); thinky sends nothing about you or your notes. - Pictures from the web. If a note shows a picture by its web address (
), the picture is loaded from that website when the note is on screen, as a browser would. Pictures saved in your notes folder never leave your device. - Links you click open in your browser.
- Send feedback (Settings › About) only opens a page on GitHub in your browser, with your words and the app's version filled in. Nothing is sent until you send it there yourself, and GitHub issues are public.
What thinky doesn't do
- No analytics, tracking, advertising or crash reports.
- No accounts or sign-ins.
- The browser extension "thinky highlights" (for Edge and Chrome) talks only to thinky on the same computer. It keeps your highlights in the browser until you send them to your notes.
